Cannondale Six13 (60) Return to Timeline
Carbon and Aluminum, elements 6 and 13. I like the name. The principle was peculiar, an intermediate between two frame-building eras, but it worked quite well. An all aluminum frame was built, and then the three main tubes were cut out near the joints. These were replaced with carbon tubes, epoxied into the aluminum, and then painted and clear coated, with some of the carbon exposed. Very class.
The frame is light and sleek, very stiff, and quite unforgiving. Excellent road performance, but the rider picks up the tab on a long ride. My first Tour of Flanders was the last time I would ride this bike. My Merckx Corsa 01 replaced the Six13 on the rough Belgian roads from that time onward.
Best (and most punishing) Ride: Tour of Flanders 2013
Fate: passed along to my friend
Photos? Not sure if I have any!
UPDATE: In my search for online photos of Six13's similar to mine, I found MINE on a UK stolen bikes website offering reward for its return! It's my bike! This is the state it was in when I gave it to my friend, who moved to London soon after. It is easily identifiable by the size, condition, 3t Forgie stem, Chorus seat post, Neutron wheel set, odd skewers, older Continental tires, front and rear lights, faux-Ti bottle cages, enough said. All exactly as I gave it. I know my bike when I see it.
I guess my friend needs as much help on stolen bikes as I have in my life!
